We have further expanded our Athena drive to the broader financial services industry, through the Women in Financial Services initiative. The purpose of this initiative is to find ways that we can work together as a collective to increase awareness around gender equality, deepen networks, and look at how we can drive this change forward.

We have established a steering committee with representation from RMB, RMI, Momentum, Investec, Absa Capital, Standard Bank and Anchor Capital, who meet on a quarterly basis. While there were great events held over the last year at various banks, the steering committee is continuously looking at exploring new ways to generate more impact in the financial services industry.

RMB hosted a Women in Financial Services event on 1 August 2017. Here we shared some of the Athena initiatives and included a panel around how men are driving change in this field. We also launched the Women in Financial services app. The app is designed to enable the women in financial services to network by sharing job opportunities, events, social media and news articles.

Women in Financial Services app

The women in Financial services app was launched at the RMB event, and registration on the app has rapidly grown in numbers. The app is designed to enable the women in financial services network by sharing job opportunities, events, social media and news articles.
