Ten things I learnt while on the Class Of programme
- The importance of networking
- Access to incredible skills and experience, both within your own Class Of team but also within the rest of the bank
- Leadership happens at all levels, not just at management level
- Hard work counts. You can't just be bright. Brains are meaningless unless you can add to the bottom-line
- Focus. It is easy to be excited about everything that happens around you. But unless you make something your own, and be exceptional at it, you will be a jack-of-all-trades, master of none
- Humility. You will find out how little you know in the bigger scheme of things
- Responsibility. You must take responsibility for your own development and career
- Respect every person no matter what they do. I learnt the hard way that sometimes it is the people you disregard because they are “unimportant” that can open doors to the “important” people
- Teamwork. You don’t always have to be the leader but make sure you are always part of the team
- At the end of the day it is all about people
